The CutUp series is currently composed of six sculptures and is a series of technical objects that are sliced, rearranged and transformed into new forms. These objects are encapsulated in resin and remain in their current state forever.

The production process of the CutUp series is a combination of high-end technology and low-end technology. It begins with a very complicated way involving a vacuum chamber and a pressure chamber to cure the resin surrounding the object at precise atmospheric pressure and temperature. In contrast, the artist uses an old-fashioned band saw to slice the object and use brute force to cut the different materials of the object. After this step, each object slice is carefully polished by hand, reassembled into their new shape, and then embedded in the resin to form the final shape of the sculpture.

The artist deliberately chose a still camera and camera for segmentation. The image taken with the camera is “artwork” and the camera itself is just a tool. For this series, the tool is converted to artwork. It is the deconstruction of image capture technology and revealing the beauty below the surface of these objects.

A delicate work requires a high level understanding of material, manufacturing process, in my practice I prefer to run tests of materials ,different materials always provide unexpected results, it help to find the best combination of technology and materials to present my work.
